Promotion and Relegation
While
promotion of the top club from Bristol and Somerset, Gloucester and Wiltshire and the four
“county” Premier Leagues below is guaranteed, the regional pyramid structure of
the WEPL means that relegation from these divisions can be influenced by the
results in divisions immediately above them. The bottom two clubs are relegated
from these divisions and, in an ideal world, would comprise one club from each
of the geographical areas in the division below (all clubs in the WEPL have a
nominated relegation path determining which of the feeder leagues they would
return to following relegation from the bottom tier).
This
ideal situation would result in an orderly one-up, one-down system between from
the regional Bristol/Somerset and Gloucester/Wiltshire divisions through to the
feeder leagues. However, when both relegated clubs are from the same geographic
area the knock-on effect could be that two clubs will be relegated to the
divisions below while none are relegated to the other.
Promotion
or relegation from the Bristol & Somerset 2nd XI competition is
dictated by the performance of the 1st XI not by the achievements of
the 2nd XI. Therefore, if the 1st XI is promoted to
Premier Two, then the 2nd XI will also be promoted to Premier Two 2nd
XI. Conversely, if the 1st XI is relegated the 2nd XI
would also be relegated to the 2nd XI competition of the Somerset
Division (if it formed as planned) or to Division 1 of the 2nd XI
competition of the Somerset League
